Set up in 2008, the Abbey Community Project brings together the diverse skills of the Abbey team to put on exciting events for disadvantaged children, young people and adults. Through these events, they can enjoy experiences and social activities from which they would normally be excluded.
The event held at Old Buckenham Airfield held 16th July was a great success, the weather was beautiful, and two aircraft were used for the day to fly adults and their carers from the Suffolk Adult Community Services. This year we also had a vintage ambulance and fire engine present that caused a lot of interest, together with games of football and Frisbee, a great day was had by all.
Following the success of this day children and their carers from Scope were invited along to Rougham Airfield on the 4th August to enjoy flights in light aircraft, rides in a motorbike sidecar, and again to climb about the vintage vehicles. The weather again was perfect and the Project would like to thank everybody that gave up their time free of charge to make both of these events a success.
